Matheson Responds to EPA’s Weak Radiation Standard for Yucca Mountain

Washington, D.C.—Congressman Jim Matheson today responded to the Environmental Protection Agency’s new final standard for radiation exposure from the proposed Yucca Mountain nuclear waste dump.

“Shoddy science has been used to move the flawed choice of Yucca Mountain forward by federal agencies and the latest action by the EPA is more of the same.  That is why I oppose Yucca Mountain and have proposed a plan to store the nuclear waste on site where it is produced.  That’s the safest, most scientifically sound approach and I’ll keep pressing for its adoption,” said Matheson.
