Salt Lake County, Sandy City Receive Housing, Community Block Grant Funds

Salt Lake City, UT—Congressman Jim Matheson said Salt Lake County and Sandy City have received more than $4.6 million in Community Block Grant and housing funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

“These funds help local governments provide decent housing and a suitable living environment based on locally-identified needs. With the economy struggling, and housing costs rising for low- and moderate-income families, this grant money helps local officials address community problems,” said Matheson.

The Community Development Block Grants program provides annual grants to local government to help provide housing, principally for low- and moderate-income people. Salt Lake County received $2,422, 052 and Sandy City received $392,106 in CDBG funding.

A new initiative under HUD’s HOME program is the “American Dream Down Payment Initiative (ADDI) which promotes homeownership opportunities by providing necessary resources for down payment and closing cost assistance to low-income and minority households.   Salt Lake County received a $15,115 ADDI award.

The Emergency Shelter Grants (ESG) program provides annual grants to State, local and private entities to improve the quality and number of emergency homeless shelters.  Salt Lake County received an ESG program award of $106,192.
