Matheson Sponsors Salt Lake Student as House Page

Washington D.C.—Congressman Jim Matheson is sponsoring a Salt Lake City High School student as a House page this semester.  East High School Junior Matt Jolley will serve as one of the 72 pages in the House of Representatives from January until June.

“I am very pleased that someone of Matt’s caliber has accepted this commitment.  Even though he’ll be working and studying hard, Matt will have a ringside seat for how our democracy functions,” said Matheson.

For more than 150 years, pages have served the U.S. Congress. They must be high school juniors and academic standing is among the most important criteria used in the final selection. Pages must be appointed and sponsored by a Member of Congress. They attend the House Page School five mornings a week, before the House session convenes.

Matt is a member of the East High Lacrosse Team.  He is also a musician who performed in East High’s performance of “High School Musical”. He recently returned from a humanitarian trip to India where he volunteered with children in several orphanages.
