September 4, 2007 More Grant Money Awarded for New St. George AirportWashington D.C.—Congressman Jim Matheson announced today that $7 million in federal transportation money has been awarded for the replacement St. George Airport. The funding is available through the Wendell H. Ford Aviation Investment and Reform Act for the 21st Century (AIR-21). “I am so pleased that the U.S. Department of Transportation continues to follow through with federal funding of the new airport. This should help the city stay on schedule with airport planning and construction,” said Matheson. Matheson noted that land acquisition and development of a financial plan for the replacement airport are moving ahead. The new facility is expected to cost between $170 million and $190 million. The site is located on 1,500 acres southeast of St. George. The new airport is expected to serve more than 400,000 people annually by the year 2035. # # # | |
