Matheson Supports Bill Authorizing R&D for New Energy Technologies

Washington DC- Congressman Jim Matheson today supported legislation in the House Science Committee authorizing research and development of alternative energy technologies such as hydrogen storage, solar power and wind power.  Matheson worked in the energy business for 13 years prior to his election to Congress.

"We need to explore new technologies in order to diversify beyond our reliance on oil for our energy needs," said Matheson.  "This legislation jump starts that effort."

The legislation also initiates a new research and development program to examine commercial applications for advanced battery technologies in motor vehicles and rewards organizations and businesses that construct new "green" buildings through a grant program of up to $50,000 per building.
