Matheson Calls for Hearing on Ports Contract

Seeks Details on How Decision was Made

Washington DC-Cong. Jim Matheson has written to the Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, requesting the hearing that has now been scheduled for Wednesday, March 1.  Matheson is a member of Financial Services, which has jurisdiction over the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS).

Matheson's letter notes that the Subcommittee on Domestic and International Monetary Policy, Trade and Technology (DIMP) oversees "international investment policies" and is the right forum for such a hearing.

It is scheduled for 2 p.m. this Wednesday.

"A hearing is urgently needed.  Congress and the American people deserve to know how this decision was made," Matheson wrote.  That is a reference to the CFIUS decision permitting Dubai Ports World, a company owned by the government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to assume charge of commercial operations at six US ports.
