Matheson renews call for drug-testing by NFL, League players

Washington, D.C.—Congressman Jim Matheson today repeated his call for action by the National Football League and its players association to adopt human growth hormone (HGH) testing in America’s most popular professional sport. Matheson has repeatedly highlighted the agreement reached during last summer’s collective bargaining process that HGH testing would be put in place this season.

“Sunday is the Super Bowl – marking the finale of the season. What better opportunity to showcase pro football’s commitment to player health and safety, and setting the right example for millions of young people watching the game,” said Matheson.

Matheson noted professional baseball has already come to an agreement on HGH testing, following validation of the science surrounding the HGH test. Health consequences to young athletes using the drug may include severe muscle weakness and heart disease, according to health experts.
