Matheson honors the memory of John W. "Jack" Gallivan

Salt Lake City, UT—Congressman Jim Matheson said today that Utah has lost a champion for the state’s economy, culture and communities with the passing of John W. “Jack” Gallivan.

Matheson said from his career as publisher of the Salt Lake Tribune and president of the Newspaper Agency Corporation, to his service as an ambassador for Utah’s winter sports venues, Gallivan played a vital role for decades in Utah’s growth and development.

“I greatly admired his intellect, his energy and his enthusiasm for advancing Utah’s agenda.  He was known for getting folks from different backgrounds around the table and then working towards a consensus.  He never forgot his roots and even though he mingled with the rich and powerful, his kind heart did as much for Utahns as his shrewd mind,” said Matheson.

Matheson said his deepest sympathies go out to Gallivan’s family and friends, as well as to his numerous associates in the community.
